For me the strength in life is linked to one to three things: love, health and patience. As against the force in the field of science requires opening the knowledge selflessly sharing knowledge and vision on ways and means to raise the knowledge at the highest point.

It is much easier to quantify the strength in materials than the strength in life because the latter can be abstract and not measurable; it varies from one person to another.
For example, the strength in life for some is perseverance and patience; for another, courage and positive attitude; and yet for another, hard work and social support network, etc.
If God give you strength and courage, don't use it to intimidate people or overpower them, rather use your gift to help others find their own way to strength. ~ Anthony Liccione
We must try to get an idea of the strength of abstractions which is very important because we express ourselves mostly in abstract terms. a metaphor makes use of different meanings at once.
I can only add that for me strength is linked to my faith, so I can do what is God's will through His strength. God is my strength and shield in everything that I do.
coming myself from „Materials Engineering”, … I like this question. With the keyword “Strength”, you reach the classical physics as well as a physiological trait.
First from physical viewpoint, the strength of any material is the resistance against applied stress without any failure. There are specific subcategories like:
Tensile Strength…maximum stretching force to break the material
Shear Strength…maximum force applied in contrary directions
Compressive Strength…maximum pushing force with axially orientation
and less material related:
Electrical Field Strength…
Magnetic Field Strength…
Signal Strength in radio frequency telecommunications…
Explosion Strength … correlated to the total gas yield of an chemical reaction, and the amount of heat produced in a very short time frame
Second from the physical ability, the strength correlated with people and animals:
Physical Strength … correlated with the muscle fibers of their organism
Third related to abstract psychological trait:
Character Strength…a very new and interesting field of research getting any kind of quantification
Virtue Strength…correlated to high morality founded on general accepted principles
Courage…correlated with the willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation
Persuasiveness…correlated with influencing person's beliefs, attitudes, intentions, motivations, or behaviors
In my opinion to be strong means to meet challenges and to be able to get up after you fall down, to follow your principles, to turn your mistakes into lessons, in each difficulty to see the opportunity, to say right words at the right moment, including “Sorry”, “Thank you” and “I love you”, to respect the other people (especially those who are younger or at lower position), to admit when someone else is better than you and to be happy with him/her…But in some situations to be strong means to be “weak”, enough “weak” to express your emotions and to show your human face, to ask for help… To be strong means to be generous and to follow the way of Good and Light.
Saludos
Atentamente

In the sense of the existence of two types of force; life force and strength of science, I think they are the same from the thermodynamic point of view
As a subject with different concepts (symbolic, syntactic and semantic) I would explain in my native language (Spanish) and the language of science (English)
To explain the life force and strength of science, you first need to explain is life and then later, the strength of science Why?
Both are a miracle that life exists is the unlikelihood that occur fortunate events in the chaos of the universe and that only in a very small universal time fraction, have been ordered phenomena in a manner contrary to disorder, a phenomenon known by thermodynamics as Neguentropía (tendency to order or go against the chaos that is the tendency to disorder)
How much force is needed for this to happen? All the strength and energy that existed in the early universe.
Once there life with all known forces and translated strengths and skills and attitudes known as perseverance, perseverance, optimism, self-realization be oriented trend to achieving goals and accomplishing goals in the ideal and the real world; until then we can speak of the power of science.
Without power and strengths of life (both tangible and intangible factors, and some already described above) can not speak of force in science, since science is the creation and development of a discipline that man with his strength of life (physical, mental and emotional) invented (scientific method), to observe, understand, identify and measure the phenomena of nature (like hard variables) and phenomena of culture and society (as soft variables)
Therefore, from my point of view, both are related, both are a miracle, are the result of going against the forces of thermodynamics and today are inter-dependent. Also, the strength and fortitude to live life successfully, optimism and quality is the same that is needed in the power of science, both in its creation and assimilation and development of the field by scientists.
Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger. - Friedrich Nietzsche
Not really!, That which does not kill us may make us stronger, may leave us in comma, or makes us feel helpless and vulnerable! (example: loosing all family member in an earthquake)
Strong determination to do work is strength. Some good skills may also be termed as the strength of a person. Basically, strength is the measure of a person's confidence level to perform a particular task.
This is the respond of Dr. Tajudeen Abdul Hameed to the current question.
"Strength in life is a remarkable capacity of asset to survive at any point of time and any where and the rest materialistically cannot be compared with it."
This is the respond of Dr. Kayode Asaju to the current question.
"Strength in life is the capacity and ability to withstand every situation of life. it is the ability to celebrate success in failure. The later strength is an attribute of the former."
"Education is, in sum, that the art of revealing to man the intimate sense should govern his actions, make the use of its energy and communicate the taste and strength to live fully". - Henry Bordeaux -
Strength is permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak.
What is the difference between strength in life and strength in Science field such as "Strength of Materials-in Engineering"?
Agreed with previous scholars' definitions. In terms of measurement differences - finding "Strength In Life" is a psychological construct in which its measurement is rather subjective i.e based on opinion (even though there are evidence / artifacts but still need to be interpreted subjectively) vs "Strength In Scientific Field" whereby its measurement can be more objective e.g. can be measured via interval / ratio scale.
Learning what all you can overcome as a person, as a human being, is very important. It's very important to understand your strength. Which is not to say you become hardened or bitter.
The strength of the computer lies in its being a logic machine. It does precisely what it is programed to do. This makes it fast and precise. It also makes it a total moron; for logic is essentially stupid. ~ Peter Drucker
Strength, hardness, toughness, elasticity, plasticity, brittleness, and ductility and malleability are mechanical properties used as measurements of how metals behave under a load.
Tensile strength" is defined as resistance to longitudinal stress or pull and can be measured in pounds per square inch of cross section.
Some materials are equally strong in compression, tension, and shear. However, many materials show marked differences; for example, cured concrete has a maximum strength of 2,000 psi in compression, but only 400 psi in tension. Carbon steel has a maximum strength of 56,000 psi in tension and compression but a maximum shear strength of only 42,000 psi; therefore, when dealing with maximum strength, you should always state the type of loading.
Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.
Strength appears in various forms viz., physical (muscular, vitality, liveliness), material (wealth, position, power, etc.), personal (character, wisdom, integrity, qualification, knowledge, skill, experience, etc.), emotional (temperament, behaviour, courage, intrinsic motivation, spirituality, humour, etc.), organizational (leadership, management, communication, etc.) and others. Each one of us possesses strengths in varying degrees making up our own unique persona. In human life, Strength is universally valued that encompass our capacities for helping ourselves and others and produce positive effects. The strength of engineering materials is its ability to resist deformation and deterioration and withstand any kind of stress or external forces. Strength provides the capability, motivation, endurance, adeptness and courage to perform aptly, to tackle any kind of situation and withstand in adversity.
In my opinion, strength in life may be adjusted, in a greater degree, than strength in science field, by a person, in order to work for his/her benefit, from an overall point of view.
A strength is the ability to consistently provide near-perfect performance in a specific activity. The key to building a strength is to identify your dominant talents, then complement them by acquiring knowledge and skills pertinent to the activity. Our strengths-based consulting has also helped organizations increase productivity, drive performance, and improve areas with under performing management or leadership. Although talents, skills, and knowledge are each important for building a strength.
On Strength as a Moral Quality of a person, it is throughly related with all the virtues of man, but principally with Fortitude. Fortitude is one of the Cardinal Virtues, so named because all other natural virtues are developed from them. Fortitude is the virtue that allows us to overcome fear and to remain steady in our will in the face of obstacles. Prudence and justice are the virtues through which we decide what needs to be done; fortitude gives us the strength to do it. (http://catholicism.about.com/od/beliefsteachings/p/Fortitude.htm)
What Fortitude Is Not
Fortitude is not foolhardiness or rashness, "rushing in where angels fear to tread." Indeed, part of the virtue of fortitude, as Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., notes in his Modern Catholic Dictionary, is the "curbing of recklessness." Putting our bodies or lives in danger when it is not necessary is not fortitude but foolishness.
A Gift of the Holy Spirit
Sometimes, however, the ultimate sacrifice is necessary, in order to stand up for what is right and to save our souls. Fortitude is the virtue of the martyrs, who are willing to give their lives rather than to renounce their faith. That sacrifice may be passive—Christian martyrs do not actively seek martyrdom—but it is nonetheless determined and resolute.
It is in martyrdom that we see the best example of fortitude rising above a mere cardinal virtue (able to be practiced by anyone) into one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit enumerated in Isaiah 11:2-3. But it also shows itself, as the Catholic Encyclopedia notes, "in moral courage against the evil spirit of the times, against improper fashions, against human respect, against the common tendency to seek at least the comfortable, if not the voluptuous."
Fortitude, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, also allows us to cope with poverty and loss, and to cultivate the Christian virtues that allow us to rise above the basic requirements of Christianity. The saints, in their love for God and their fellow man and their determination to do what is right, exhibit fortitude as a supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit, and not merely as a cardinal virtue.
Strength in the dictionary is the quality or state of being physically strong, or the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure. In the real life, strength means to withstand against its elevated pressure and misfortunes. In the science field, I think strength means to be able to admit in your fail and to withstand hostility and mockery and gloating of your colleagues because of this failure and that all of this do not prevent you to continue the journey quest for success and excellence.
Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak.
"Few men during their lifetime come anywhere near exhausting the resources dwelling within them. There are deep wells of strength that are never used."
Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.
“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”
~ Mahatma Gandhi
Strength is often measured by how big people are, how much muscle they have or their ability to physically do things. While that does work for a number of things in life, it’s one’s inner strength that allows you to achieve things and keep coming back for more even when you’ve failed time and time again.
Gandhi was not the biggest of individuals. In fact, many would consider him frail. But that skinny many not only walked 18 miles a day every day, he also inspired an entire nation to fight for its independence in a peaceful manner, and succeeded.
Strength you can define in many ways. 'the quality or state of being physically strong' or
'the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure'.
First of all you cannot compare at all. Only for literature sake eg. Simili (a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind) you can do this. In reality how can you compare and differentiate.
Strength of materials, a Physicist can eloborate/explain well. I am remembering my 12 class lesson Elasticity where I read about Young's modulus etc.
If you come to 'Strength of Life', you can say many things like how you quote a nice quotation and how others explained their views. It depends/differ from person to person. Not all human beings have the same strength. Physical strength and Mind (mental) strength for the same person also differs a lot. Eg. a Physically challenged candidate. Even you take healthy personality both strengths differe a lot. I am physically weak in certain issues but mentally very strong I can bare even hard difficult situations too. All RG members posted excellent answers. We can read and enjoy and learn a lot.
The picture posted tells strength of materials, Advt. for Fevicol.
PS: Fadel thanks for posting the question to me otherwise I would have missed it.

"Prepare yourself for the world, as athletes used to do for their exercises; oil your mind and your manners, to give them the necessary suppleness and flexibility; strength alone will not do."
Strength stands for the state of being strong bodily, psychologically, morally, intellectually and congenially. Above all, inner strength is supreme that makes you believing in yourself so passionately that you’re competent, brave and strong enough to conquer any kind of obstacle and hardship.
“Never apologize for being sensitive or emotional. Let this be a sign that you’ve got a big heart and aren’t afraid to let others see it. Showing your emotions is a sign of strength.”
The Law of Inhibition. The strength of a reflex may be decreased through presentation of a second stimulus which has no other relation to the effector involved.
True strength is keeping everything together when everyone expects us to fall apart.
Anyone can give up, it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if we fell apart, that’s true strength.
I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.
My take on this question is: If you have a single person vs. a group of people, the group will overcome the person. It is called a collective strength vs. individual strength. In nature is the same, if you have a higher density material which lattice is intertwined with many strong molecular bonds than a material with lower density like gas or liquid state with weaker bonds. in equal conditions denser material is stronger than a loose one. It seams that even a single person with integrity is stronger than a single person without one, psychologically speaking. E pluribus Unum...
“While strength is the natural quality of an individual seen in isolation, power springs up between men when they act together and vanishes the moment they disperse.”
You really have to look inside yourself and find your own inner strength, and say, 'I'm proud of what I am and who I am, and I'm just going to be myself.' - Mariah Carey
Overcoming obstacles in life and for every action, there is an equal and opposite (hidden) reaction in science :) and in materials, removing impurity is strength for one system and introducing impurity is strength for another system :)
