Hi I generally work with FLUENT and OpenFOAM
In FLUENT, Fluid body will be created via solidworks or design modeller and exported for meshing where the boundaries will be defined from the fluid body.
In OpenFOAM, only surface will be created in a stl file format then exported to meshing tool like snappyHexMesh (HELYX), from enclosure of the surface, fluid body will be created and then mesh will be performed.
Now I'm trying to use salome to create mesh to run in OpenFOAM. I noticed that whenever I import complicated stl, there is an issue of closure.
Should I have to shift back to the methodology followed in FLUENT, create a solid (fluid) body then import to salome?
There are several format files for do that, I used IGES some time ago but in my personal experience the best format is SAT imported by Gambit like ACIS format.
Instead of STL file, you can import STEP or IGES format models. Additionally, you can use sewing option in Salome to make the geometry water tight.
I agree with Volodymyr Brazhenko . For the ANSYS applications (CFX, Fluent, etc.) nowadays the ANSYS Spaceclaim geometry modeler is the recommended application for importing CAD and for preparational / cleaning-up purposes, before you enter with this geometry in meshing (no matter whether that is ANSYS Meshing, ICEM-CFD or Fluent Meshing).

I remember using sewing option only for meshing.
Are you mentioning about face glue?
