I am a bit confused as this is not my background. However, I want to do a genealogy test on an endogamous population. I was thinking of using the saliva for DNA extraction as it is the most hasslefree; for me and for the participants.
I would be grateful if someone who has training in this background could help me out. What is the best way to store the saliva samples?
Also, some people have suggested the Oragene kit for DNA extraction. It is somewhat pricey. Is there another viable way to go about with the isolation?

I think buccal swab is better sample as compared to saliva for DNA extraction. You can immediately process the samples for DNA or store at -20 degree freezer for later analysis. There are a lot of low priced kits for DNA purification. You can check with HiMedia for kits.

DNA extraction from buccal swabs is very easy. Store samples at -80 if possible.
Getting permission for the study is going to be the hard part.

DNA isolation from buccal swabs and use Qiagen extraction kit, it works for me.
