The slides were prepared a month ago and were shipped to me with a delay. During the shipping, and I assume also during the storage, they were maintained at ambient temperature (laboratory, airplane...). I stored them at -30 deg C (dry, not in ethanol).
There are 800 slides to be processed and I assume this will take me a few months. Any one had a similar experience and can recommend the best way to store the slides for the next 4 to 5 months?

you can use Camphora , in Iraq, we import fish from Iran and noted the use of camphor to prolong the period of preservation

The best is to avoid freeze/thraw cycle so if they have been mounted in a correct cryo and light protecting medium, they can be stored several mounth at 4°C in case of NBT/NCIP revelation

In my studies I storage the fish at-80 degree for several months. Since under -40 degree there is almost no enzyme and microbial activity. Therefore the quality can be protected. But it must be kept in cold chain.

I also keep my FISH slides at -80 degree. I have slides for 4 years that are in perfect conditions. The slides which could survive to the transportation, will be ok.

Thank you all. The slides survived the transportation and the probes can be hybridized, I only have to do a protease treatment prior to denaturation. I will try to find some place at -80 and transfer the slides there.

Tnah you for your helpful advice. Knowing that the slides will be good for the next few months till I process them is conforting. I chose to work with PK and so far so good. I do minor optimizations for different cell lines but in general it works without problems.
So far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed.
