I am having difficulty to separate unreacted graphite from graphite oxide.
I am not an expert but I would guess using the hydrophilic nature of graphite oxide to disperse and separate them in a suitable medium. Graphite is not so hydrophobic but at least it is better than graphite oxide.
1)Graphite is much hydrophobic than GO.In case of GO because of the functional groups at the edge plane you can disperse in water.
2) By controlling the reaction condition i mean at adequate temperature, acid concentration you can minimize the quantity of unreacted Graphite.
Do solvent separation
Using a centrifuge at 1000-1500rpm for 15mins is a simple and quick method of separating graphite from GO.
Graphite and graphite oxide should have significantly different density. So I have to agree with Aisha Tanvir.
"Go nut with centrifuge!".
I have prepared graphite oxide from the reaction of graphite,KMnO4,H2SO4 and H3PO4.For reduction of 300 mg of GO I used 600 microlitre hydrazine hydrate and 900 microlitre ammonia...I have got...

In most papers 95 to 100 degree centigrade is used to synthesize RGO. Why arent temperatures above 100 degree like 150,200,250 used to synthesize graphene?
