I'm relatively new to microscopy and staining. I am working with a mouseline that is susceptible to developing early onset alzheimer. I see that often times papers reference staining myelin sheath, axon diameter and pathogenic/pathology with the following stains:
Fluoro-Jade stain
Nissl Stain
Luxol-fast blue
Kluver Barrera
black gold 2
However I'm not sure whats best and also what more to stain for my sample. Any advice would be helpful

I think that it depends on what do you want to stain, as Matthew say above you can try with silver stains, (Gallya´s method) but I think that they are not easy or cheap.
I would discard H&E, it´s not helpful to observe the pathology...
I would recommend you to start with some alzheimer specific antibodies (phospho tau, PHF, or b amyloid). And move on if you need another kind of staining, but if I where you I will first make a test with antibodyes of course, just to ensure that the tissue is expressing enough pathology to be detected with regular methods.
You can also try the Congo Red stain, but even this non IHC-staining needs alot of expierience. I would also recommand to check the quality of your mice model by immunhistochemistry. Try the ab again beta amyloide (clone 6E10) covance cat# SIG-39300
