Protocol for Immunohistochemistry (IHC) starting with fresh mouse brain?

I have been trying to do IHC with some mouse brains that I mainly follow here (https://www.abcam.com/protocols/ihc-for-brain-slice-sections-video-protocol). However I haven't been getting any signal at all.

I also notice others embed or freeze their tissue before proceeding. Was wondering what benefits there are to that.

Any help would be appreciated.
