We are struggling with inconsistent settlement and early life survival with sea cucumber (sandfish, Holothuria scabra) in a semi commercial hatchery in tropical Northern Territory, Australia.

We will be setting up early life trials to study settlement and first feeding and are planning to trial Ulvella Lens, culture benthic diatoms and a wild biofilm.

Can Ulvella lens be cultured in a tropical environment?

Has there been detailed settlement cue and first feeding trials with Sandfish? Or other sea cucumber species?

Has standard settlement plates (as used in the abalone industry) been used with Sandfish? And what is used in a commercial setting as a settlement cue and first feed?

Kind regards

Anton
