If you're asking for an alternative to EtBr, Nancy-520 from sigma is for you. Sigma claims, it is both sensitive (for DNA detection) and much safer to use compared to EtBr
EB is the most economic product, but it is harmful as you have mentioned. There are products like "sybersafe dyes" in market which have almost same resolution as EB and are eco friendly. Give them a try.
