Many researchers tend to register the DNA sequence that they work on in NCBI or DDBJ or EMBL. What is the benefit of the registration for the researcher and for in general and what is the difference between the three gene banks?
Similar to publishing a paper, it's public works that add to a scientist's career. The databases share all data and choice of NCBI/GenBank vs DNA Databank of Japan or EMBL is usually divided by which journal you publish in. Within each database are now subsections for fully annotated entries vs deep sequencing short reads, and not completely assembled/annotated genomes etc...
Without registering the DNA sequences of a particular fragment in this website, nobody will know the nature of this fragment in terms of its polymorphic status, its pattern of heritability….etc. In other words, the process of DNA registration in NCBI has provided a valuable source of DNA information repository that could be transferred freely and easily around the world. this, in turn, enhance the development to build a huge knowledge for the perspective studies.
