Median recovery of 52.3% (range 15.2–146.3%): These figures come from Bone Marrow Transplantation 25, 243–249 in the year 2000, so I guess improvements have been made. Does anyone have any more recent data about this? This is a critical point that must be considered to better know how much CD34 should be collected by apheresis in order to ensure there are going to be enough cells.
I have not seen this paper, nor without an author's name, would it be so easy to find, but any paper that claims recoveries of '146.3%' needs to look at how the CD34+ cells were counted. It makes me wonder who could have reviewed this! Spontaneous generation of live CD34+ cells while on the CliniMacs column. The last time anything similar happened there were 3 Wise Men riding camels over the horizon!
The real recovery values for CD34+ cells from CliniMacs devices is in the range of 45-55%, if you know how to count CD34+ cells properly with single platform ISHAGE Protocol-based flow assays.

You just need to copy-paste the article reference in google and you will find it. I really appreciate figure number 3 which is a really point in favor of the authors on how to report these kind of cuantitative variables. There you could check frequency distribution of recovery and then you could draw you own conclusions. According to that figure I would say there are nine out of 54 patients with recovery counts over 100% which in my opinion that could be due to different sources of error such as sample dilution, volume measure, etc. but median and IQR are robust paramaters not influenced by outlier values and they can be drawn from the figure. You might shed some light on it.
I really appreciate your comment about ISHAGE protocol which is something I recently pointed out in an audit, the convenience to implement an external quality control for CD34 enumeration.
