Politics is to give authority related to governance and discussion making to the majority in a group. We have to play politics in an organized manner and not permit a political group to temper the majority. There is no needcto avoid it, there is a need to streamline it and make this process transparent.

Politics should be only for the welfare of the society but these days its meaning has been completely changed.
A real politician should not be selfish and corrupt. These days corruption is the main hindrance in the way of progress of a nation.
Politics is everywhere, home, school, even in your personal relations.
Politics became nowadays a game of power and interests. No more honour lives in the politicians profile. They use finances as a gun and politics as the moment when they should pull the trigger.

I started learning politics from my uncle who was a member of Oyo State parliament in 1979 after my Primary school education and before secondary school education. I commenced secondary school education when free education was introduced around 1980 during the second republic in Nigeria. The third republic was aborted during the elections of 1993. Nigeria is currently in the fourth republic. I have been following Nigerian style of politics for 40years starting with my uncle as a personal tutor. The Cambridge dictionary gave a holistic definition of politics or who a politician as follows:

1. The activities of the government, politicians, or political parties, or the study of these activities.
2. A person’s politics are that person's opinions about how a country should be governed.
3. Politics are also the activities of people who are trying to obtain an advantage within a group or organization.
4. The activities of the government, members of law-making organizations, or people who try to influence the way a country is governed.
5. The job of holding a position of power in the government.
6. The relationships within a group or organization that allow particular people to have power over others.
C. The first definition is well known to many people but the third definition also means that when you are trying to maneuver events in your favour, you are also a politician. All administrators, monarchs, heads of Universities, hospitals and departments are politicians.
D. Can you avoid politics? This is an extremely difficult question because most activities of life would involve politics and if you want to succeed you must be ready to take a risk. However, grass-root politics in Nigeria is another big topic that would be meant for another forum.
