I have acquired a lot of images of my neuron's axons degenerating over time by various different insults. A lot of my data is qualitative, and I could perhaps go through all the images and count the degenerating axons to build some quantitative data.
I'm wondering if there might be some reliable software that can extract data from my images of degenerating axons.
I have used Neurolucida from MBF Biosciences before and found it to be adequate for the quantification of neuron morphology.

I have also been told that modern ImageJ packages are capable of this (NeuronJ and Simple Neurite Tracer) although I have not personally used those.

Beware automated tracing solutions however, they are quick but can also be *somewhat* inaccurate if you have multiple neurons in an image or the resolution isn't exceptional.

In ImageJ there's actually another plugin developed by Erik Meijering, mentioned above by Erik.
It's called NeuronJ, quite straight forward to use, we currently use it for neurite outgrowth tracing: https://imagescience.org/meijering/software/neuronj/
Another software you might also give a try is Imaris, from Bitplane. I never used it myself but a colleague recommended it for similar purposes. There's also a trial version available: http://www.bitplane.com/imaris/imaris
