The Journal of Business Ethics has a leadership section and has published a number of articles related to leadership and competitiveness. If you go on the Journal of Business Ethics and search on 'leadership and competitiveness' you will find a number of related articles.

I think there is no a direct impact of the leadership on competitiveness; But leaders could change positively organizational behavior and performance: higher productivity and efficiency, better quality, more innovation,... All these factors enhance organizational competitiveness.

Transformational leaders like Steve Jobs (Apple's CEO) or Eric Schmitt (Google’s CEO),... had succeeded to create a favorable context of work, to energize their collaborators, and to make their companies the most competitive in the world.

There you can see competitiveness as a multi-level question, and one of this level is the micro one.

Leadership is directly related to competiveness.  In order to be successfully competitve, leadership needs to keep the focus of the firm's strategy, align the workforce to that strategy, and implement initiatives that would meet those strategic needs.  The Balanced Scorecard is a tremendously valuable tool in determining initiatives and goals.  I see you have already been directed to many worthwhile sources.

Leadership certainly influences organizational competitiveness. An inspirational, ethical and value based leadership builds up conducive organization culture which values human potential, creativity and desire for achievement and thereby creating an environment for development of human capital. Strategic use of human capital creates  competitive advantage through adaptability, innovation and by building  symbiotic relationship amongst people, process and environment, thus approaching sustainable development.

The advent of globalization and de mechanization has opened the avenues for a larger than life leadership committment. Nevertheless reputed business heads concern is to maintain national competitiveness in their home countries.

The need of the hour is to incrementalism the market share and geographic diversification. The organizations need to traverse in the blue ocean of untamed, uncaptured geographies. Global leadership needs to be established to cross policy , bureaucratic hurdles, industrial disputes and powerful political lobbying.  With the product life cycle shrinking at a fast pace, there is no room to breed nationalcompetitiveness.

leaders bring competitiveness for organisation by proactively leading the subordinates. When leaders pursue transformational style, they guide and coach their juniors, increase their vision and help to generate future leaders for the organisation. All these initiatives encourage employees to think out of box and come out with innovative ideas, which is the key to sustainable competitive advantage. 

The Difference between a Good Leader and a BossHole

Good leaders create an environment where their team can excel. Mediocre leaders do what they see everyone else doing. Exceptional leaders have the passion, drive and vision to dance to the music that other people can't hear yet. Overtime he or she gets everyone in their organization to hear the tune.

A Bosshole is a leader who sucks the life, energy and enthusiasm out of their team. They do this because they have no idea what drives employees to excel.

More businesses, economies and nations are ruined by bad leadership (Bossholes) than any other cause.

Great leaders inspire and Bossholes undermine success. 

Success is defined as the ability to create valuable goods and services in the marketplace.

Valuable is defined as adding value to the lives of the consumer.

I believe these core principles are true regardless of the form or location of the government or nation.

The economic performance of any nation depends on various factor basically the natural resourses as well as the human resourses. To translate these natural resourses into physical goods we require a trained manpower, however  entrepreneurship is the vechile through which this is done and here it is the policies of the government which promotes or prohibts entrepreneurial activity. Now the policies are made by the government,and here comes the role of the leader. good ,dynamic and visionary leadership lead into formulation of good policies which in turn encourage entrepreneurship which leads to the utilisation or resourses producing goods and services thus leading to increase in the GDP of the nation
