I'm running a regression to see if the 5 personality traits can predict empathy levels. Overall I get a significant value in my ANOVA table p=.000, but then 3 of the 5 predictors in the coefficient table are non significant? What does this mean? And how do I explain and report this?

The overall ANOVA significant result indicates that at least one predictor coefficient is significant. Individual predictor coefficient significance indicates to you that only 2 predictors have significant effect on your response. The significance of these 2 predictors explained the overall ANOVA (at least one coefficient is significant).
H0 (ANOVA Regression) : b1 = b2 = b3 = b4 = b5 = 0
Vs
H1 (ANOVA Regression) : At least for one bi > or < 0 i = 1,2,....,5
P-value (ANOVA Regression) > 0.001
So the result is
H0 Rejected & H1 Accepted
You also have the same result in the regression coefficients table.
Therefore there is no contradiction. But the results confirm each other.
In running regression we interested a significant individual viarable than the overall significant value. The overall significant value ANOVA result indicates that at least one independent variable coefficient is a considerable or significant variable. However, the important variables for our intervention are individual significant variable. but the insignificant results are also important.
