I have seen a microscope setup in a lab with a variable stereo base (realized with symmetric movable mirrors covering different widths from the CMO).

This shall in principle modify the stereopsis of the system, however by changing and adjusting this I could not detect "any" differences in the "depth perception" (which I was expecting).

So my question is what determines the "depth perception" in stereo microscopes?

Please note that I do not mean the stereopsis mechanism, but the "amount of depth perception"

Do you have an equation or a formalism to determine it?
