I am using FM4-64 FX to stain Klebsiella bacterial cells.
1 ug/ml is a good concentration for E. coli. I think it is also suitable for other Gram-negative bacteria.
I also feel that 1 to at the most 2ppm should be sufficient. You need not do the gram staining.
