I am thinking of conducting experiment of isolating bifidobacterium from breast milk thus along with MRS agar L cysteine have been used in previous papers as there is not L cysteine in the institution ,so thinking what can be done ..
It may depend upon the strain you have. Most reports do suggest that cysteine is a required component and the cells are unable to make cysteine because of an inability to use elemental sulfur, although some strains may be able to use the sulfur moiety from methionine instead. So you could try methionine instead but you probably would be best to just purchase some cysteine.
