Parental refusal of vaccines is a growing a concern for the increased occurrence of vaccine preventable diseases in children. A number of studies have looked into the reasons that parents refuse, delay, or are hesitant to vaccinate their child(ren). In recent years, the issue of rejection of vaccination has started to threaten public health. For example; In 2018, the number of measles cases reported by WHO in the European Region was over 82,000. The number of deaths caused by measles was 72, in the same year. Interestingly; the cases of measles began to be expressed in thousands in some developed European countries.
Parental refusal to vaccination is not a good practice because vaccines provide protection to children against deadly diseases. I think public education and awareness regarding importance of vaccination is essential because there is misconception that vaccines have harmful effects on children.

In my opinion, the best way of convincing parents about vaccination is showing historical evidence which ended by a lot of people dying. For example, influenza and smallpox were the main causes of death among the Inca population. If we show them the results of refusing vaccination, we can convince them.

Dear Prof. Ilhami Unluoglu, parental refusal of vaccines is most important problem that is growing and jeopardizing public health. In order to reduce vaccine rejection, health literacy should be increased about clarification of exaggerated views on complications and possible health risks in case of non-vaccination. In addition, effective legal regulations should be taken on public health by protecting personal rights.

In my opinion, parents who do not accept the vaccine should have their health insurance canceled and punished. The importance of vaccines should be explained more effectively. More study should be done on the benefits of vaccines and shared with the public. Social media should be used more actively. The channels and social media accounts that make anti-vaccination programs should be closed.
Refusing vaccination for their children is a huge ethical problem that we should solve. Could "refusing vaccination" be accepted as a neglect of the child. I think that evidence about the safety of vaccines is not told enough to the people around the World. People have already forgotten the damages of the diseases such as polio measles and others. We had had once a ws in wonca 2015 Conference in Istanbul about this topic but as participants we could not be so much creative only the brochures, images and similar publications to inform the people. I remember that we could not find a more effective way for motivating refusing parents. but we should discuss and find a better way to persue them. bests..
