Metastasis is an important property of malignant cancer. But it has been found that the pattern of metastasis is different in every type of cancer. Every type of cancer metastasize to different sites of the body.
So their must be some molecule which guides them through the metastasis process. What are the signalling molecules involved in cancer cell metastasis?

My take on this is that all cells in order to metastasize need to undergo epithelial to mesenchymal transition. The favorite molecules to look at are cadherins and some keratins depending on the type of tumor. You could start by searching for that process and see where those answers lead you to.
