The climate related events can be either extreme events or slow onset events. In addition there are changes in the usual weather pattern. The frequency and incidence of extreme events have been increasing during the recent decades.
What would be the possible approaches / methodologies for quantifying the influence of climate change on the intensity or frequency of climate related events?
Attribution of climate change has been defined as ‘the process of evaluating the relative contributions of multiple causal factors to a change or event with an assignment of statistical confidence.Therefore attribution is a key aspect of the understanding of climate change risks, many of which are associated with the occurrence of extreme weather or climate events. Such events have been defined as ‘discrete episodes of extreme weather or unusual climate conditions, often associated with deleterious impacts on society or natural systems, defined using some metric to characterize either the meteorological characteristics of the event or the consequent impacts.
