Cancer prevention has nothing to with any physical exercises ! Cancer is due to mostly genetics, radiation, some metabolic illnesses, some virus infections, some hormones, food & diet, aging etc ...
Exercise does help to reduce the risk of many types of cancer. Up to 1 hour of moderate activity daily or 30 minutes of vigorous activity is recommended for this purpose. For instance,
1. The risk of breast cancer may be reduced with exercise as high level of physical activity may lower the level of estrogen in the body which can act as a mitogen in breast cancer.
2. Exercise can help the waste to pass through the colon more quickly thereby reducing contact with cancer-causing agents and thus lowering the risk of bowel cancer.
3. If one remains active, the body produces less of insulin and insulin-like growth factors that can speed up tumor growth.
Thus, physical activity can help regulate some hormones that contribute to the development of cancer and also help keep the immune system healthy which in a way will reduce the risk of cancer.
Staying active makes your body more healthy and your immunity will work better which is essential for preventing genetic component, for example mutations in tumours suppressor genes. Take a look at our research because we analysed correlation between life styles and development of the breast cancer.
Physical activity decreases lifetime exposure to sex hormones especially serum oestrogen and androgens which has been implicated in cancer. This is due to its potential to delay menarche and ovulation, while increasing menstrual cycle length.
The potential for for physical activity to reduce obesity and body fat stores can indirectly affect the concentration of oestrogen and other hormones such as adipokines, leptin and adiponectin implicated in cancer causation for example postmenopausal breast cancer.
