Whilst Charnley advocated the transtrochanteric approach for total hip arthroplasty during his time, this approach has slowly fallen out of favour with most of us. What are the specific indications for performing a transtrochanteric approach in the current scenarios in a PRIMARY hip. What technique is best and what fixation method is to be followed. Personally I never had to resort to one so far, even in a severe protrusion or an ankylosed hip but I am always prepared to do one if need be. I am curious to know experiences and opinions from more experienced colleagues.
