I want to visualizing the temporal relationship of patients records over time, assuming that i have EHR dataset, what are the used techniques to plot or visualize such kind of dataset, where each patient have different features which are updated over time.
The standard method is a spaghetti plot. However this is to compare patients undergoing the same treatment at the same time. If you have everyone in the ER together you would have separate out the different treatments. Best wishes David Booth
Dear Lubna, the answer to that question is relatively difficult since it depends on what kind of EHR data you want to sure. Visualizing all in one plot will likely not be possible. You will also have to differentiate if you want to viualize the data for one or all patients at the same time. I suggest that you consider a implementing a combination of a Swimmer plot and a spaghetti plot by patient and give these by patient in a panel. The Swimmer plot is a means to visualize qualitative events and duration of different aspects (e.g. Medication intake, survival time, Depending on the indication at hand, several efficacy parameters should be considered for the spaghetti plot besides laboratory data. Unfortunately, the spaghetti plot will need you to consider on what intervals the data is collected, while you can work with 2 y-axis, this will come with constraints. Thus, you need to decide what the most important is that you want to visualize.
