What are the best cell based migration assays for peripheral nerve regeneration?

I'm doing my PhD on development of a novel tissue targeted Growth Factor: ECM chimeric fusion protein as a potential therapy for peripheral nerve regeneration. Part of this study is that I have plan to characterize my fusion protein on PC12 cells and Schwann cells to see the neuronal outgrowths through a migration assay. I'm also looking for other assays to characterize the protein function in regeneration. Please advise me if you have done related experiments.
