The functional MRI (fMRI) is a sophisticated way to study the brain function and eventually the consciousness in “vegetative state” patients. But it is not anywhere available. A more easier and cheaper way to do this is the use of the EEG (with stimulation) associated with the event-related potentials (ERP), to study the reactivity of the brain and the mismatch negativity (MMN) and the late P300a and P300b potentials.

At the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Dr Lionel Nakache use a high-definition 256 electrodes EEG with very convincing results.
