I am working on degradation of 1,4-dioxane from water using nanoparticles under visible light. From the results I found that 1,4-dioxane (C0= 10 mg/L) is removed. But I couldn't identify the byproducts in GC-MS. I did control test such as 1,4-dioxane+nanoparticles in dark, only 1,4-dioxane in visible light. Results showed that there is no significant change in concentration. Is there any other ways that can confirm that 1,4-dioxane is not absorbed on nanoparticle surface?

I believe that it is necessary to proceed to a characterization of the sample of nanoparticles by photoluminescence. If there is absorption the spectrum will be different.
If it is strongly adsorbed on the surface of NPs, maybe XPS of your recovered nanoparticles will show if dioxane is there? also maybe ATR, Raman, even TGA/DSC may give you clues.

Curtis Guild and Dr. Margarita Sanchez-Dominguez for your valuable suggestions. I did reverse-phase HPLC for 10 ppm 1,4-dioxane and 100 ppm 1.4-dioxane. For 10 ppm concentration didn't get any peaks but for 100 ppm I got three peaks. However, couldn't confirm the peaks. I will do the FTIR and XPS for more confirmation.
