In construction of bullet proof jacket 600 BHN quenched and tempered low alloy UHSS steel sheet of 3mm thickness is used in strike face followed by HAP and SAP made by high density polyethelene with about 40-50 layers of HDPE(Kevlar) in HAP and upto 20 layers in SAP followed by compcating and curing. The bullet proof jackets are ballistically tested by AK47 with hard steel core (HSC) and mild steel core (MSC) in 7.62 SLR.Due to weight restrictions we can not increse armor steel sheet thickness beyond 3 mm.Please suggest how to improve ballistic resistance of this combination? Will coating of shear thickening fluid like glycerol help?
