I am attempting to model a two-bed adsorption chiller in MATLAB. The equation shown is the energy balance of the adsorber/desorber.
Ws = mass of the silica gel, Cp = isobaric specific heat, Cu and Al = Copper and Aluminum, q = mass adsorbed, m = mass flow rate, Qst = isosteric heat of adsorption.
My question regards Qst and the term containing it. According to the explanation, during adsorption, this term accounts for the release of adsorption heat, so shouldn't the sign be negative, as its an exothermic process?
And during desorption, will the value of Qst remain the same, or will it be negative (since desorption)?
Some articles mentioned that the isosteric heat of adsorption value is an absolute value, while others mentioned the isosteric heat of desorption being approximately the negative of the isosteric heat of adsorption, so I'm not sure how this term will behave.
Thank you for any help.
