As, my studies are related to water adsorption, the substrates should be hydrophilic in nature. Ni-foam being hydrophobic in nature, the results are not as expected as in literature. Hence i wanted to convert hydrophobic to hydrophilic and many literature suggested for etching with HNO3, calcined at different temperatures , but I a looking for simple process. Is there any other method for increasing Hydrophilicity?
1. Yes, you coat the Ni form with some kind of Hydrophilic material using Physical deposition technique like Thermal deposition or E beam deposition or sputtering. But it will cover the active area of Ni.
2. You can partially oxidise the Ni Form in furnance for short duration. It will partially convert Ni into NiO which can have a different hydrophilicity than pure Ni form.

From literature, its understood that the pretreatment of nickel foam with ethanol can change its hydrophobic nature to hydrophilic. So, you can try ultrasonication method.
Yeah sir, I used to wash with 5% HCl, Water, and Ethanol -Sonicating for 15mins then dry under vacuum and drop cast. I went through a few literature where they mentioned that chemical etching or calcination is used to change the hydrophobic to hydrophilic of NF. So i ended up with confusion whether to continue the same or do i need to jump to another method?
