I think the previous answers provide good information, including this from Cochrane: 'An update should be conducted according to the standards required for any review, with some additional requirements to ensure that any changes are managed appropriately and reported clearly to readers.' So, in terms of registration, I would be inclined to approach the update similarly to the original. There are a couple of 'updated reviews' registered on PROSPERO at the moment and I wouldn't see a problem with registering an update. In fact, it would be useful, if I was working in the area, to know that a new or updated review was being undertaken. You could register it including 'update' or similar in the title, and include a citation to the original study. Best of luck with it.
