Could it be that sonication in your case does not effect coated tube surfaces, but in case of coated nanoparticles it will? I tried to contact the researcher in question about the specifics surrounding his claim "/.../deposition under sonication works great", but have not received any answer.

Anyone else has an idea on the details?

Ultra-Sonication in principle used to disperse the particles (in general) but when you are working in nanoparticles these dispersion is very significant. Ultra-sonication homogenize the whole colloidal suspension and hence it imporves surface area of your dissolved nano particle. Due to higher surface area your coating improves practically and in your aforesaid case of silane and Au nanoparticles this thing may be happening because binding is totally based on their chemical affinity to each other while you are enhancing surface area using sonication.

Sonication in different media can also alter your results I would send your some link over this.

Hi everybody. Ultrasonic and megasonic baths are also used to clean many surfaces. Depending on the frequency and the power levels of the transducer, the waves may induce agitation but also cavitation. If I use a high-power ultrasonic bath to disperse my pre-coated GNPs, is it possible that I'm also destroying their coating due to cavitation?
