To which extent publishing raw data of a started research work or its preprint on researchgate is safe in terms of privacy and copyrights?

Despite that early pre-publishing exposure & sharing of reseach data and/or drafts on researchgate credits the researcher a lot and subjects him for early peer reviewing& citations, but still I would like to know how to protect my data, thoughts& drafts from any illegal use and/ or adoption by others?
