Our lab is thinking of using a standard office scanner to image coomassie blue stained SDS gels and ponceaus S western blot membranes. We are thinking of using one like this one (https://www.staples.com/Epson-Perfection-V600-Photo-Color-Scanner/product_967601) which is just a standard flatbed scanner intended for color photos, films, and slides. Has anyone ever used this method of western blot imaging before? Are there any specifics we should look for in a scanner? Any tips for ensuring good images? All thoughts are welcome and appreciated!
