As far as I can tell from the paper, 50 µl of the diluted cultures were plated onto agar plates for counting colonies. The paper does not give any details about the dimensions of the agar plates. They probably used standard-sized (100 mm diameter) petri plates. Why not e-mail the corresponding author to ask?
