Hi, from many scientific articles (example, http://journals.aps.org/prx/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevX.5.021014), I see that when you focus the longitudinal dipole on pinhole (for confocal setup), its distribution is like donut. What is the polarization state of z-dipole emission after collected by objective and make it parallel to optical axes (collimation). I am assuming that it is a radial polarization?. If I strongly focus the emitted z-dipole radiation (with NA>0.95), what is the distribution at focal plane? Any suggestions about it are highly appreciated

Hello,
I think your questions can be answered by looking in some classic textbooks such as Born & Wolf. This should allow you to calculate the polarization and intensity of the beam at any position (at focus, off focus, etc.). With modern computers, it is relatively straightforward and reasonably fast, and can be done in something like Matlab.
I also recommend the papers by Wolf on the topic of polarization. I found the second paper more useful than the first part.

Thank you very much for your reply. I have a vector Debye integral code with me. After a small simulation with it, I realized that focal field again forms tight focal point when it is focused by high-NA objective similar to the focus of radially polarized light. So, I assume that polarization state of z-dipole after collimation is radial.
