I am modelling polystyrene sphere in COMSOL. I am looking for the complex refractive index (k value particularly) of polystyrene at 3.4 um where C-H absorption takes place. Anybody has this data at 3.4 um?. Refractiveindex.info has data until 1.6um. can anybody suggest me if there is any way to find out extinction coefficient using FTIR?

Though this old man is scared, yet will give his view.
Since poly styrene is diamagnetic, apply:
n^2 complex= ε complex
ε complex of polystyrene is reported in literature=2.6
n^2 complex=2.6
n complex= 1.612

Thanks for reply. I could not fully understand you answer. Just to repeat that complex refractive index is n+ik form, where n is conventional refractive index reported elsewhere and k is extinction coefficient depends on absorption. I am looking for k value at 3.4um for PS spheres.
