Since poly styrene is diamagnetic, apply:

n^2 complex= ε complex

ε complex of polystyrene is reported in literature=2.6

n^2 complex=2.6

n complex= 1.612

Thanks for reply. I could not fully understand you answer.  Just to repeat that complex refractive index is  n+ik form, where n is conventional refractive index reported elsewhere and k is extinction coefficient depends on absorption. I am looking for k value at 3.4um for PS spheres.
