If I have to report the observed statistical power, what is its standard symbol in tables and text? 1-b? Are there any guidelines in the APA or Harvard standards?
I know that it can be computed that way, i'm asking about APA standard in reporting. :) Is this information (like "report it as 1-b) somewhat provided in official APA or Harvard standard guidelines?
I'm not sure that You know what i'm asking for. Effect sizes have many symbols, like Cohen's d, eta-squared, omega-squared, r, and so on. All of them are described in APA manual with symbols. I am asking about guidelines for APA or Harvard style reporting of observed power.
Thank you for the information, but I do not mean the symbol in general, only if the beta symbol is correct in the report/article in the APA or Harvard format.
Dear S. Béatrice Marianne Ewalds-Kvist - I will again point out that you probably do not quite understand the question. Maybe there is a language problem and missed something in the translation?
Indicate the page number as Chris Lange-Kuettner says - but I HAVE 6 edition of APA standards about which you write, exactly the same book and there is nothing about observed statistical power symbol.
Since I did not find any guidelines anywhere, I used the 1-b with the footnote under the table that this is observed power. The article editor did not raise any objections, but it is still not official APA guidelines.
Perhaps this was not as important as I thought. ;)
Thanks, Thomaz. I was just searching for the same thing and am perplexed that an answer is so hard to find. I was thinking of 1-Beta as well. (I hope you were writing b for Greek Beta--because it should, of course, be Beta). Glad you posted!
Dear Andrés Julián Arias-Moreno - it is quite interesting, there are examples of the description, but this is not the official position of the APA or other editing standard, but the internal standard of some university. Thank You anyway.
In this thread you will find my way (answer from September 5, 2019).
Unfortunately, to this day, no other meaningful answers or guidelines (e.g. of the APA standard) appeared, and all the links to articles indicated in this thread refer to things that are absolutely useless. Save yourself time and report it as I did (1-b). Good luck! :)
