Although I have a teaching qualification, it does not necessarily meet the level I teach. I was, like all lecturers in the UK, forced to take it. But would we really not benefit from taking extensive ongoing courses in the art and science of lecturing rather than falling back on experience too often?
You are very right, Dr. Stanley. The truth is that lecturers should constantly update themselves with the new paradigms in teaching. In-service/short course training and workshops on teaching have been part of the teaching tradition in Ghana to fill this void. Sadly, the old and experienced teachers feel that such training is for the new and amateur teachers. However, they forget that no one is above training! I constantly partake in every accredited training on teaching and research whether it is funded or not. I know that such training is worth my savings. Best regards

I think that the process of developing teaching staff is focused on training lecturers on the use of various modern techniques in teaching. It stems from a simplistic theory. If we can provide each lecturer with new skills, we have solved better teachers.
Advanced training is very important for teachers.....so get acquainted with new research and advancement
Mostly lecturers have little exposure, therefore they need refresher courses
When made to take aq teaching qualification, as with everyone else involved in higher education, I found that what they taught me I already knew-I had worked it out for myself-so in fact it felt like a waste of time. I scored highest for presentation, which I thought (sic) was kind of them.
