Unfortunately having a strong background in mathematics is a precondition for having your ideas accepted by the scientific community. If you want to supercede existing theories it is important to thoroughly understand those theories, not just verbally but also mathematically. Furthermore, I think many physicists would say that if your theory is not couched in precise mathematical terms then your theory isn't properly formulated. So if you want to pursue your ideas these barriers must be overcome.
