Meanwhile, there are around 20 CV based on literature for my DV. How can I include CV(s) if I would like to study the causal effect of IV(s) as well as the Moderator Effect of IV1 on IV2? CONTROL VARIABLE functions as a means to see how the model responds when certain variables are included or excluded. If you are going to report the result of the study under certain "conditions" and these "conditions" relates to control variables then your supervisor is correct by showing these control variables on the conceptual framework.
NUMBER OF CONTROL VARIABLES of "around 20 CV" is probably too many and is an indication of poor literature review. It is mostly that you pick up these 20 CV from more than one literature source. If so, you should select only what is relevant to your case. Use information criterion to evaluate if you have too many variables. 20 CV may seem like over-fitting the model or just "having no idea" what is relevant.
