Researcher-1 conducted an experiment on X number of animals with apriori sample size calculation. Researcher-2 also did the same experiment with same number of animals but had not done any prior sample size calculation. Both Researcher-1 and Researcher-2 got the analyzed from the same data analyst independently without knowledge of each other. Will both the researchers get same results? What difference will their respective data make?

The takehome message is 1 knew what his accuracy was before he did the experiment and that it satisfied his/her requirements. While yes 1 and 2 should get the same results, 2 meets his/her accuracy requirements only by LUCK while 1 WILL meet them because of careful planning. MORAL: do the calculations. That is much less costly than redoing the experiment. Best, David
I agree with David. Researcher 1 is demonstrating wise management which has both economic and ethical elements. The fact the results are the same is not under dispute. The difficulty with a sample size calculation is to make an accurate estimate of effect size.
