I am trying to figure out what type of corrosion cell we can use to carry out corrosion experiment in hydrofluoric acid. I am afraid if I prepare samples in epoxy it will cover the surface and coating will no longer be tested. Moreover, my electrolyte is very expensive, so is there any suggested cell design I can use which require very less electrolyte and also resistant to HF.
To work with hydrofluoric acid, you need to use utensils and equipment made of PTFE (Teflon). Such chemical utensils are commercially available.
If you are not going to heat above 80°C, PE is enough. For containers with HF xH2O
Just cut the bottom of PE, HDPE. PP bottles or canister - rectangular bowl.
Regarding the location of the examined sample, it can be machined from sheet PE or PP. Milling can be done in the inner space. Bloom the sample and seal the edges with hot melt glue (patex hot melt). Preheat with a hot air gun before melting.
Teflon is expensive but can be connected by fitting, the inner ring is cold and the outer ring softens when heated. Hot fitting in binder's gloves. The internal overhang at 30 mm is 0.6 mm, it does not apply to all PTFE
The PTFE container diameter 50 is made from a solid rod and the required clearance and depth are drilled into it. a wall of 5 mm is sufficient
