As always, it depends a lot on the research question being asked. However, it is worth noting that the popularity of SAGE seemed to peak in the 1990s and then waned. In contrast, gene expression microarrays have been validated and published on in many different types of studies and in many different organisms, and are still being used by many, many researchers today. I think a more interesting comparison is between RNA-seq (sequencing cDNA using next-generation sequencing technology) and microarrays, but reasonable scientists have different opinions about whether microarrays or RNA-seq give a better/more accurate answer.
