Is it necessary that a putative anticancer agent that is altering the mitochondrial membrane potential always leads to alteration in the ROS levels as well? If there is no change in ROS level at all then what explanation could one give for such behavior of the compound?
Often anti-cancer compounds increase ROS, and the absence of ROS may be the result of:
1. Lack of a compound act as an anticancer.
2. Your ROS indicators may be poorly measured, and further tests are preferred.
3. The last possibility is that the compound used does not have a high impact on the production of various oxidants compounds and thus you have no significant effect.
