can any one know about the relationship between the effective mode index of a mode and its attenuation coefficient.
I want to calculate the propagation length of plasmonic slot waveguide I already designed using Comsol and I do not know how it can be calculated using effective mode index or attenuation coefficient.

the mode loss (mode propagation loss) is related to the imaginary part of the effective refractive index (effective mode index) by this formula:
alpha=10*abs(log(e^((-4pi/lambda)*Im(neff)))) (dB/um)
I think there is a strong relation between the two parts, please to review standard books of fiber to know...
