The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) places a high priority on providing quality education to financially disadvantaged and minority students. To fulfill this commitment for all students, the University has established the Office of Educational Opportunity Programs and Special Community Services (EOP/SCS). EOP/SCS programs are designed and coordinated specifically to meet our students' educational, social, and financial needs. A primary goal for the EOP/SCS staff is to provide supportive services to all project students, thus enhancing the successful completion of the student's college career. Public Services are a widely sponsored by the government as a welfare measure to reach the common without any hindered blocks to the needy..
The Employees of such services should take it as a pride to serve, but it gets compared with the private and monetary returns, and thereby diluted in performance...
Education of minority groups such as gypsies, education in the field of computer literacy education in the field of agriculture for rural areas, seminars for cross-border cooperation within EU are some of major public services offered by my college!
Since the question is about some official duty, I have to abide by the description of the office itself in the university's website. In our university there is:
Quote: "The Community Service Center, located in ... the centre of Nablus and a member of the McGill-affiliated Palestine Community Advocacy Network (PCAN), is open to members of the general public in need of social services;
The Continuing Education Center, located on the Old Campus of the University, administers the mandatory Community Service Course which requires that all An-Najah students complete 50 hours of volunteering in the community. It also offers continuing education courses in many fields;
The Open Polls and Survey Studies Unit;
The Academic Program for the Study of Involuntary Migration;
The Computer Lab for Visually Impaired Students, on the Old Campus;
The People with Disabilities Care Office;
and the Women's Studies Unit.
Although operationally autonomous, all 7 centers work to further the practical application of theoretical sociological approaches, and the bridging of academia with issues facing the community." End of quote.
Grooming of talents at (frequent/ required) periodicity is a must and encouraged within the members of Public service.
Nurturing the talent is point of concern in Public Service. When the Recruitment happens, the creamy ones enter but over a period of time, updation with the recent technological changes takes time to reach those in power. During this period the Private sector booms and edges over competition and stand atop.
