A variable loaded 1.097 and the other loaded 1.040 on a component in principal component analysis. are this loadings in order please?

The absolute numbers tell us little. You should draw a Scree-plot (number of factor on the x-axis, corresponding Eigenvalue on y). This should result in a "mountain with rubble": A steep part on the left and a flat part on the right. The factors in the flat part are noise components, those in the steep part contain the relevant information.
