I feel prefabricated structure is catching up and mainly the research on how to ensure the durability of this kind structure. Because, there will be a number of joints like foundation - column connections or column - beam or beam slab connection is more important. also, the material point of view of alternate to the cement or concrete, the new alternate materials to these conventional materials are welcome note in research..also, retrofitting work..still many more like how to reduce construction time or earthquake resistant structure design ..ok all the best in your research..

Before recommending to you any topic in Structural Engineering I need to know your background and the country where you are going to apply your research. Is it an earthquake prone area? What type of construction (reinforced concrete, stone, masonry, wood, steel, etc.) is usually going on in your country? Are you like mainly experimental investigations or theoretical research?

First of all, I would like to thank you for your response. I live and study not far from you, in Iran, and I'm going to apply my research at Khaje Nasir Toosi Uni. of Tehran. As you know, Iran is an earthquake-prone country. Concrete structures are the most used here and in the next orders masonry and steel ones. I like both experimental and theoretical types of research, but I'd prefer the experimental ones.

Glad to learn that you are from Iran, the country where I was many times and I have many friends. I was invited by some Iranian companies to make lectures on seismic (base and roof) isolation systems/technologies, which I developed and implemented in Armenia. Also, many times I have participated in different conferences in Iran. Due to my works Armenia currently is the second in the world after Japan by the number of seismic isolated buildings per the number of residents in Armenia.

I have the leading role in the world in the field of retrofitting of existing buildings by application of the invented by me unique seismic isolation technologies. I am doing this in the existing buildings without moving people out of the buildings and without interruption of the use of the buildings. Retrofitting by my technologies costs from 3 to 5 times less in comparison with conventional retrofitting.

This is extremely important also for Iran, as your country has huge number of existing buildings which need to be strengthened. Therefore, I suggest you to do your research exactly in this field. For the beginning you may visit Armenia to learn about our large experience and see seismic isolated buildings newly constructed or retrofitted in my country. By the way, the cost of newly constructed base isolated buildings in Armenia is also less from 30% to 40% in comparison with the buildings constructed without seismic isolation.
