I need the best way to prepare specimens to use with SEM and LOM for my FSW 300x200x3 mm plates of AA6082-T6. I have used Barkers and anodizeing with struers Lectropol-5. Grinding with 220-500-4000 and 9-3-1ym. I cant get good picture showing the TMAZ and HAZ properly. I can see the weld nugget and onion rings but its difficult to see the zones. Any suggestion how to prepare samples or how to manage to get good pictures is very helpfull.
After grinding (i would do one or two steps in between P500 and P4000) and polishing (skip 9µm as P4000 is about 6µm) you schould do a final polishing step using colloidal silica suspension (e.g. Struers OP-U). Removing all silica particles requires thoroughly cleaning afterwards. Than do the anodizeing with Barkers.
Dear, First check specific etching agent for relevent to your materials as a finding of weld structure. because if your sample well polished then you have to focus on etching agent. because aluminum alloys- getting weld structure is not easy need to do more well polished like mirror.
